A mid-sized goose smaller and shorter necked than the average Canada Goose. Breeds in the Arctic tundra and is generally encountered on migration in our checklist area although some will remain over the winter in small numbers. These are often single birds mixed in with flocks of Canada or Cackling Geese. Higher numbers of Greater White-fronted Geese are usually seen during migration on the coast.

Similar species:
Be aware of free-flying domestic Graylag Geese or hybrids. These birds are usually much larger with deep bellies and lack some key fieldmarks (see image in photographs)
